Project HEAL in India

One of the scourges of the population, per the medical community in India, and one of epidemic proportions is type-2 diabetes. We are working with diabetologists and physicians to encourage diabetic patients in India to switch to a strictly plant-based diet using studies conducted in the USA as a guide.

Our Ambassador – Arun Bhardwaj

Sankara’s ambassador Shri Arun Bhardwaj is India’s leading international ultra marathon runner. As an athlete who follows a plant-based diet he takes our message globally through his runs and races. In 2019 Arun took our message of nutrition and fitness to the masses in rural Tamil Nadu with the 2019 Sankara Run in October.

After seeking blessings of His Holiness Shri Vijayendra Saraswathi Swamigal of Kanchi Kamakoti Sri Matam in Chennai Shri Bhardwaj ran over two hundred and fifty kilometers over nine days stopping by villages and schools to share his journey as an athlete and inspiring many to become active and follow a plant-based lifestyle.

Running through Kanchipuram, Tiruchirapalli and Tirunelveli, with the coordination of the respective Hindu Mission Hospitals, he addressed over fifteen thousand students and two hundred and fifty police officers about physical health as well as the need to cultivate strong mental health and positive attitudes. Many joined him in the run on his routes – curious at first and then inspired.

Bhardwaj planted trees in some gatherings and passed out thousands of educational flyers about the importance of regular health screenings to catch diseases like diabetes, cancer and heart conditions early. Media coverage of this Sankara Run, both in print and digital, further took his message of health and wellness to several thousands especially in rural Tamil Nadu.

We look forward to many more opportunities for Arun Bhardwaj to help bring this message of health and wellness throughout the world.
